WITT in fashion

On a night when WITT students demonstrated their talents, the top prize in the annual Taranaki Fashion Art Awards also went to a student.

Melanie Blanchard ended a five-year run of school leavers and adults winning the top prize at the annual awards, first run in 2001. She picked up the Supreme Award for her self-modelled entry A Bird in the Hand.

The awards attracted 106 entries and were held for the second year in a row at the TSB Showplace.

Organiser Lois Finderup said the WITT students did a fabulous job – “the hair and makeup were sensational,’’ she said.

Lois Finderup said entry numbers were down on last year, but she was encouraged by the quality – and the fact that Coastal School managed a total of 16 entries.

“It was a fantastic night’” she said.

From WITT a dozen makeup and beauty students joined their tutor Sarah-jane Thomson and five hairdressing students with tutor Kellie Divane to help out backstage on the night.
