Joachim has The Most to say

Joachim Ogden enjoys beating the drum for WITT every week.

Joachim, who has been at WITT for eight years, has a short morning slot on The Most FM’s Wednesday breakfast session and this week he took hairdressing students Annabelle Hodson and Natalija Wallace (pictured) with him to talk about WITT’s hairdressing courses.

The other man on the mic at the Taranaki community station was breakfast host and Station Coordinator Jack Ingram, who is often seen providing the sounds for student events at the WITT campus in New Plymouth, just a 100 or so metres  from the station’s home.

“There is so much going on at WITT I always have something to talk about,’’ Joachim said. “I like to take students with me because it allows people to hear their voice too.

“And people like to be kept informed about the services we provide – such as our fantastic Impressions Restaurant where our students train and will be providing a $15 buffet meal today and next Friday.’’

Impressions is also hosting a High Tea on September 1 and 8.

WITT also has a training school in A-Block for its hairdressing and health and beauty students, and listeners also hear about that from Joachim.

Industrie Hairdressing offers a range of services but is not a commercial operation.

“We love seeing the public support these ventures because in turn it helps our students,’’ Joachim said. “And also, a lot of people don’t realise what we have on offer.’’

Joachim’s field of expertise is in the kitchen.

The Sri Lankan born tutor, who grew up in Australia and New Zealand, is a patisserie chef who teaches diploma in cookery students at WITT. He has previously served as Head of Hospitality and Programme Manager and this year has been seconded into a staff development role.

“I trained in Auckland in the 1990s and then worked abroad in Australia and the United Kingdom for eight years, and I was passionate about teaching apprentice patisserie chefs. Then the teaching opportunity at WITT came up - what a way to use 14 years’ experience!
