Health Comes First

Nurse Practitioner Jenny Kissick has commenced weekly clinics on the Ground Floor of B block from 9am to 1.30pm each Tuesday.

New Plymouth based Jenny works for Tui Ora and joins Jacquie Vink, WITT’s campus nurse who moved from MediCross four months ago.

They are part of the free and confidential student support team services provided by WITT from 8.30am to 4pm Monday to Friday.

“We are here to help support the health of students,’’ Jenny said.

“We offer a range of services.  On my first morning, for example, I was able to assist a student by treating a skin infection which included prescribing an antibiotic and pain relief, and also request  blood  testing for another student.’’

As a nurse practitioner Jenny has clinician training and met competencies to allow her to practice beyond the level of a registered nurse. This includes prescribing when required. Jacquie said the services offered by WITT on campus included advice and treatment for health conditions ranging from a requirement for a flu vaccine to sexual health and hygiene issues.

“If students have questions about health, I encourage them to pop in for chat,’’ she said.
