Brooke shows style

Year Two student Brooke Utiger earned a second placing in the recent Taranaki Regional Hair Stylist of the Year Awards at New Plymouth’s Devon Hotel.

She was among nine WITT students to compete in a high quality event. The team included four second year and five first year students.

Tutor Kristine Fraser sai the standard of work presented by the students was so good judges and industry representatives could not tell which models were from students and which were from salon stylists.

She said she and fellow tutors Kellie Divane and Fiona Smith were extremely proud of the student’ competition work including the hair, clothing and make-up on the models and they were great ambassadors for WITT.

The students came up with their own ideas for hair styles, clothes and make-up.  They had several practice sessions which allowed them to grow their ideas and hairdressing skills while the tutors assisted with the fine tuning of the final creations.

Brooke Utiger won her second placing in the Next generation section of The Colour Presentation event. This model was judged on the technical ability needed to create the colour as well as the hair style, the finish of the style and the presentation of the model. Brooke’s work was all her own ideas and work; she designed and created the cut and the colour.

“She is a stylist that has an awesome career ahead of her,” Kris Fraser said.
